Book Recommendations for my Grandkids

 The Neighbors by Einat Tsarfati One little girl lives on the seventh floor of a walk up apartment building. As she goes up and down every day, she wonders who her neighbors are. She makes up lives for people in each apartment and imagines the amazing lies there are living. The colorful pictures will keep the attention of even the littlest grandkids.

Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann   Pinkalicious loves the color pink more than any other color, as well as soccer, painting, and using her creativity. She has a brother named Peter. Pinkalicious has many adventures with unicorns, friends and arts. Aimed at kids 4 - 8. 

In our Neighborhood Series by Ann Marie Anderson  This is a must read series. Theo and Emma meet the workers in their neighborhood. The books start out with a map of the neighborhood with labels so kids can see who works where. In the back of the books, there are questions from real workers about their jobs. also tips, tools used and other helpful information.

The Pirate of Kindergarten by George Ella Lyon Illustrated by Lynne Avril  Ginny is seeing double! That is not good. She tries to solve her vision problem with an eyepatch and declares herself a pirate. Great book to promote problem solving. Vibrant pictures with a lot to discuss with preschoolers.

 Armadillo Antics by Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson illustrated by Nathalie Beauvois If you  and your grandkids loved Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? and Chicka Chicka, Boom Boom, you will love this book also. Armadillo Antics has the rhyming phrases that are easy for little ones to follow along. We all enjoyed the armadillo facts at the end of the book. I now know that the armadillo has two major enemies- dogs and car; and that the armadillo can run ten miles per hour. A Must Read!

 A Seed Grows by Antoinette Porter A beautifully illustrated book with bold colors showing the life cycle of a seed becoming a sunflower. The book has a short glossary in the back explaining such things as parts of a seed, parts of a sunflower plant and what the seed needs to sprout. 

The Return of Thelma the Unicorn  by Aaron Blabey Thelma and Otis are back. Thelma, who is not a unicorn, dressed up as a unicorn. Now, the world can not find Thelma, the unicorn, They want her back. Thelma is undecided. She does not want to be a phony. See how her friend, Otis, helps her with a big decision. Does the world need unicorns.

 I Want to be a Monster by Elise Gravel All of Winnie's friends have pet monsters. Winnie wants one too! Winnie finds our that although baby monsters are cute, they grow up to be a lot of trouble.  Preschoolers with find the colorful illustrations adorable.

 Penguins Don't Wear Sweaters                                     by Marikka Tamura     Illustrated by Daniel Rieley This is a delightful book with for early readers with simple text and a lot of pictures of penguins doing penguin things - swimming, diving, fishing and playing. Then comes an oil spill. Everyone wants to help. Knitting sweaters for the oily penguins is suggested. But is that really what they need?
